Create pots, beads, and sculptures with clay. Using clay is a fun way to fabricate some great pieces of art. Making a clay bowl or pot is easier than you may think.

One of the simplest kinds to create is the coil pot. Cut strips of pottery artist clay and begin to hand roll the strips back and forth. The strips should start to turn into coils; they should be a little thicker than a pencil. Once you have your coils rolled out, simply stack them one on top of another in the formation of a circle. For added strength you can smooth the coils together on the inside or outside of your pot or bowl.

Allow your piece of art to dry completely before painting. If you are lucky enough to have an art clay kiln available to use, place your creation in the kiln to be fired. Once your work of art has been fired, your bowl or pot may appear to have a reddish-pink color.

Some people to do like the natural color that is a result from firing pottery; however you can paint your creation and then re-fire it to add shine and enhance the paint color you have chosen.
