A paint brush is a tool made from natural hairs or synthetic fibers that are attached to a handle. A paint brush is used for applying ink or paint. There are many different styles of paint brushes including the following:

Round: A very long brush that has closely arranged bristles that slowly tapper off, forming a point at the end of the brush. This is a great brush if you need to do details in your painting.
Flat: A long haired brushed that is flat and has a medium softness. It is used for spreading paint quickly and evenly.
Bright: Very similar to the flat brush, however this one has shorter, stiffer bristles. This is a great brush for driving paint into the weave of a canvas in thinner paint applications, as well as thicker painting styles.
Filbert: A flat brush with a rounded, dome-like end. They allow for good coverage and provide the ability to perform some simple detail work.
Fan: A fairly flat brush that has wide-spread bristles. This brush is excellent for blending broad areas of paint.
Angle: A flat brush that has angled bristles. It is great for creating lines and shadows, as well as adding some detail into your artwork.
Mop: A larger brush with a rounded edge for broad soft paint application. It is also great for applying thinner glazes over existing drying layers of paint without damaging lower layers.
Rigger: A very narrow brush with long hairs that form a point at the end. This brush is great for creating fine lines.

Once you have chosen the perfect brush head, you should also take into consideration the length of the brush handle. Short handled brushes are designed for watercolors or ink painting while the long handled brushes are ideal for oil or acrylic painting.
